Academia under Command: Militarism in Israeli Academia

This report maps and presents the various collaborations of academic institutions in Israel with the military, state security and intelligence agencies, and military industry companies. It examines how these collaborations make Israeli academia an active partner in a system of institutional and military violence in Israel, Palestine and around the world, and how it affects students and academics, particularly of vulnerable groups. The report reviews these and other aspects of military-academic collaboration.

When difficulty becomes a risk - the consequences of military service on soldiers

Military service might have severe consequences on some conscripts, especially youth at risk and those belonging to marginalized populations. Service may perpetuate already low socio-economic status, creation of a heavy economic burden, and cause severe psychological pain. In this report, we present statistics, information, and personal stories about various aspects of the failure of soldiers to integrate in the military, and the negative consequences of such. In addition to describing the general difficulties involved in military service, the report focuses on specific populations which are at a greater risk for negative consequences from military service.

The day after exemption

The booklet contains information on civil alternatives for those exempted from military service, in the fields of professional training, employment and livelihood, education and scholarships, housing, psychological treatment, volunteering, and more. The information was collected from various agencies which provide services and assistance. It is general and might change from time to time, so it is recommended to contact those agencies (detailed in the publication) directly, in order to get up-to-date information.

Information booklet - Options and procedures for getting exemption from military service

The booklet provides information on the various types of exemption from military service, including an explanation of the relevant bureaucratic and legal procedures. The information presented is general, and military rules change from time to time. The military prison- a guide for imprisoned consciousness objectors

This detailed report examines the military imprisonment system and guides, in detail, those imprisoned regarding conscription day, objection day, detention, trial, imprisonment in Prisons 4 and 6, release from jail, and exemption from service. (The information in the booklet is not up-to-date).

Exemption from military service based on consciousness grounds (pacifism)

The booklet includes broad information regarding exemption from military service based on grounds of consciousness(pacifism), including a detailed description and instructions about every step of the procedure: a letter of request, lawyer affidavit, interview, exemption committee, and the submission of an appeal. The booklet is currently in the process of updating.

Child Recruitment in Israel

The report examines the many and varied forms in which children are being recruited by the Israeli armed forces and by Jewish militias. A parallel report has been prepared by a Palestinian human rights group – Defence for Children International in Palestine – examining the recruitment of Palestinian children. Together, we hope that these two reports will prove to be a first step in a concentrated effort, aiming to take children out of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
