Working with educators and social workers

Mainstream Israeli society sees military service as a norm, necessity, and opportunity. The presence of military culture in civil life is the usual thing. From a very young age, the Israeli education system encourages youth to enlist. The problematic consequences of Israeli militarism and the risk factors related to conscription for many young adults are rarely mentioned.

Therefore, New Profile offers educators, social workers, and other professionals who work with youth spaces which enable critical learning and discourse on the full reality of a militaristic society, while developing tools for coping with it in various institutions. The expected result is that the professionals, and the youth with whom they work, will be exposed to a new and different angle of conscription and military service, gaining a deeper understanding of militarism in Israeli society.

If you work in fields of education, youth, or social work, and you are interested in participating in our activities, or you would like to organize a meeting, you are welcome to contact us here.

Conferences, workshops, and lectures

New Profile is connected to, and collaborates with, a wide network of activists, human rights workers, professionals, and researchers who deal with various aspects of militarism, with the hope of advancing a broad critical discourse. The movement organizes conferences, workshops, tours, and cultural activities on a regular basis for the general public or for specific audiences, offering a rich variety of workshops and lectures which you can book–most of them free of charge.

Lectures on militarism

You can schedule basic lectures on militarism in Israel and New Profile’s activity, or choose a lecture which focuses on a specific aspect of militarism, in order to critically examine the consequences of militarism on Israeli society. Examples for topics of our lectures:

We will be glad to work with you to plan the lecture’s content and length according to the nature of the planned meeting.

Workshops

New Profile organizes moderated lectures for existing groups, or for groups which meet specifically to learn about militarism. We can conduct such lectures online or in person– or hybrid. We run one-off or ongoing workshops of different lengths on a weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly basis.

Tours

“Mili-tourism” – We offer guided tours in which we explore the different layers of militarism in various public spaces.

Cultural activities

Occasionally, we invite the public to cultural evenings on militarism-related topics, such as a movie screening and a lecture, or a panel with experts from different fields.
